The Route

The route planned begins in San Francisco, California. From there we will travel down into Mexico and Baja California, to a city named La Paz. From La Paz we will catch a ferry across to Copper Canyon, a network of many canyons, some larger than the Grand Canyon. Down to Mexico City for a couple of days R&R then down to Oaxaca state. From there to Guatemala past Lake Atitlan into Antigua. Here we will meet a friend Jorge Agiluz. Through Guatemala to Honduras and a few days at Jorge’s hotel. From here Costa Rica and Panama.

We will negotiate the dangerous Darien Gap to Colombia by taking a ferry to accross into Cartagena. We will travel through much of Colombia’s mountainous and diverse landscape. Through Venezuela to the Angel Falls, highest waterfall in the world. Then south to Brazil and the Amazon basin. Riding through Boa Vista to Manaus we will travel the Amazon river by ferry to its mouth Belem. From here we will travel around the vast north-east coastline of Brazil famous for beautiful beaches making a relaxed entry to Rio de Janiero.

This is all a pretty loose plan, with a very loose time frame…. who knows where else we might end up!

Below is an interactive map of our general route, drag it round and have a look… click the ‘next’ button below, and read some of our comments. The ‘Hybrid’ button gives an idea of the landscape.
