Sea Dogs of the Caribbean!

April 6th, 2007 by Josh

Ahoy me hearties!

We’re in Panama (jeez, that was quick).

Well well well, the gods have looked kindly on us and we have secured passage on a 100 foot vessel in exchange for a bottle of rum and several greenbacks. En voyage we will be mingling with the natives of the San Blas Islands.

The captain is a friendly german named Ludwig and is friends with a hostel owner, Richard of Zuly’s Backpackers in Panama City. We have many good reports on the boat and all reports are that this boat seems to be the best! Certainly a bigger boat means more space for motorcycles. There is a wee challenge in getting to the boat, they’re anchored in Carti down a long dirt road with a river crossing so a bit of enduro adventure awaits us still!

Have met many fellow motorcyclists recently. Had lots of fun and a few murderous border crossings. The Panama Canal was great to see and we hope to have a look at some real Darien jungle on the road tomorrow.

So until a week from now tune out. We can promise stories of police escort, high seas adventure and Jon is still pining after that girl back somewhere…

    Actually Nick Barbalich here.
Really do enjoy your blog about your travels. It certainly beats the postcard once a month from South America. Eveyone is well. We had a family weekend in Carterton, camping in the local campgroup. Great weather, but the town left a little to be desired, as its still a rural support town, unlike Greytown or Martinborough which have become towns focusing on the tourists. I hope everything goes well on your travels, and you stay safe on the road.

    cheers
    Nick
    ps keep those photos coming.
